Como en otras novelas de Thays, el drama sentimental es la espina dorsal del argumento. Esta, de piel blanca y cabello rubio, aparece esbozada como una belleza europea, que el periodista compara con la actriz francesa Dominique Sanda. A pesar de hallarse singularizado, este personaje forma parte del universo social andino, compuesto -a los ojos del narrador- por una masa humana, indiferenciada y degradada. Su madre fue asesinada y abusada sexualmente por los militares.

Life[ edit ] Thays was born on October 21, , in Lima. He studied languages and literature at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. In he published the volume Pasajeros Perdurables - Historias de escritores viajeros with his selection of stories of other writers that had lived in exile. Alonso Cueto wrote on him: "There is a new generation of writers in Peru that wishes to break with the usual form of writing realistic novels.
For instance Mario Vargas Llosa described him as "one of the most interesting writers that arose in Latin America in recent years. In all three cases he did not receive the principal award though.
